Before the rain started we drove about 40 minutes north of Orlando to Sabal Point Sanctuary for a hike. This was an out-and-back trail, very reminiscent of a rail trail in how level and straight it was. I had hoped to experience more diversity in the areas we walked through but it was pretty much what you see in the pictures the whole way. Granted, we turned around before we hit the 2 mile marker so perhaps it did change further out?
It felt a little weird driving so far through residential areas to get to the trailhead, but once we got there it kind of made sense – it is a pretty small parking area and you can’t really venture from the trail – it is very marshy and wet throughout most of the area.

On the way back from the hike we stopped to check out the Orlando branch of our climbing gym (Central Rock Gym). The Orlando location opened just a few months ago so it was neat getting to see it.
We met staff member Manny and he was awesome – so welcoming and personable! Manny if you ever read this you should come up to work at our Massachusetts location!!! =)

We find that we both have our ‘good climbing days’ and our ‘off’ days. Today was a great day for both of us – we felt strong and managed some routes that were challenging (for us I mean).
Climbing (like any sport or hobby) is not going to be for everyone. But I would encourage everyone to at least check it out. Gyms offer single day passes to try it so there is no commitment if you don’t like it. It’s funny how it has surprised some of our friends and they liked it more than they thought they would!
I’m not a big fan of weights so climbing for me is an exercise that is much more engaging and fun. I love how form and technique can make great climbers out of everyone, you don’t have to be built like Arnold Schwarzenegger to be good at it. And lastly, I like that it exercises the mind as well as body as you try to figure out the route between attempts.
