The campground isn’t bad.
Our first experience was the check-in and we found her to be very pleasant and friendly.
The site (#35) is not very level side to side but in looking around it might be just this one, the rest look more level. We had to stack three of the plastic blocks and a 2×10 board to get it level, which leaves the stairs so high that I had to use cinder blocks under them!
The sites are a little closer together than we like but it’s not the tightest we have been in.
Wifi is slow (2Mbps) and the cable is snowy on every channel, but thankfully we don’t need either for muc (and it is possible that the cable issue was only our site).
We decided to try a 4,000 footer (referring to mountain peak height above sea level), first time in … years(!).
Mt Moosilauke is a favorite of ours due to the 360 degree view at the top. We opted to stop at a nice outcrop about 1/4 mile(?) short of the peak, giving us about 8 miles round trip for the day. More than 3/4 of a mile was walking to our car, since parking is restricted to one side of the road.
It was a gorgeous day! About 45 degrees at the start, and a high of 62. Very oddly it was incredibly still at the top, barely any wind and therefore considerably warmer than we are accustomed to.
We took the Gorge Brook Trail up and back — about 7.2 miles round trip with 2,550 feet elevation gain.
At roughly 2.6 miles up there is a narrow but beautiful view right from the trail.
